Ready for Help?
The average person seeks insomnia treatment after 10 years (yes, 10!) of struggling with the symptoms. If you are ready for help, it isn’t too late or too early. The good news is that your body has all the ingredients necessary to rediscover how to consistently sleep better.
Dr. Detweiler-Bedell delivers insomnia treatment in Portland and the surrounding areas by providing individually-tailored Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) online.

If you are experiencing chronic or acute pain, working with Dr. Detweiler-Bedell (who is a certified instructor of Empowered Relief) is a highly effective approach to managing pain.
Insomnia treatment with other health conditions
CBT-I can be used safely and effectively even if you have other physical and/or psychological diagnoses. That said, a referral to a sleep disorder specialist may be necessary if you have certain untreated sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, circadian rhythm disorder, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, or nightmare disorder.
If you have any of these symptoms, there are a number of accredited Sleep Centers in Oregon that can help you with diagnosis and treatment. In addition, if you have an untreated substance use disorder, seizure disorder, bipolar disorder, or panic disorder, it will be important to talk with your primary healthcare provider before initiating CBT-I.

Coordinating care
Importantly, if you are currently receiving care for a co-occurring sleep disorder or another physical or psychological health condition, CBT-I may be a helpful addition to the treatment you’re receiving. If you are taking prescription sleep medication, CBT-I can be offered as an adjunct to or a gradual replacement of your sleep medication use. At your request, Dr. Detweiler-Bedell will coordinate care with your other treatment providers.
